Manar – Jubilee Trust 2017

The Jubilee Trust invited the Rotary Club of Gibraltar to recommend a young disabled person to sail on their ship, The Lord Nelson, from Gibraltar to the Gran Canarias. This sailing adventure is aimed at boosting the confidence and team building for young disabled persons, teaching them to be part of the crew on board the ship.
Our Young Person Award winner, Manar Ben Tahayekt who suffers from Cerebral Palsy, was up for the challenge and joined the ship on the 24th of November , setting sail on the 25th and returning by air on the 3rd of December 2017. The day started with Rotarian Penny picking up Manar and Rotarian Barbara to meet young adventurer Victoria at the airport in the morning, quick Rock Tour and late lunch at Queensway Quay before delivering both girls to the ship to settle in. It was good for the two girls to get to know one another before boarding.
After having been supplied with heavy weather gear for the trip and given a ship safety at sea briefing, all aboard dined out in Casemates for a social evening. Manar sent a message to say she had already made several friends and was enjoying herself.
